The Gyreum is a home from home hidden in a massive timber tumulus in the heart of Western Europe’s best preserved and most extensive megalithic neighbourhood.
The building is directly juxtaposed with the winter and summer solstices, in alignment with the cairns of Carrowkeel, the Si Lu rock of Moytura and most impressively the summer solstice dusk behind Queen Maeve’s mound atop Knocknarae - Ireland’s Uluru.
The rooms are tasteful and simple - more luxurious than a hostel, less private than a guesthouse.
A huge attraction is the great central hall which has extraordinary views across five counties.
The Gyreum is mostly aimed at groups wanting to do retreats, rehearsals or courses.
Individuals are welcome when there is no group in sole occupancy.
There is a filling organic breakfast served each morning and, if the hostel is busy, broth at midday from a great cauldron.
